Jersey's politicians will meet to discuss whether to hand more than 10m worth of land to a private company - six days before the actual States debate. The meeting has been called to make sure States members have all the information they need to make a decision in the House.
The island's Policy and Resources Committee propose handing over the land to Les Pas Holdings to avoid further court action.
Les Pas has been claiming ownership of a large area of the waterfront for years.
Policy and Resources vice-president, Senator Terry le Sueur, said the committee understood members' concerns about the proposal.
Court case
But he believed the settlement could prevent the States making an even bigger loss if it fought a longer court action.
However, he said that because the court case would resume if the States rejected the deal, it would not be possible to discuss legal matters in detail.
He also stressed the committee would not be making any more public statements about the issue until after the special States sitting on 16 September.
The pre-States meeting is taking place on 10 September.
