Raised in New Orleans, moved to California. Mother was on the Southern church revival circuit. Teedra on New Orleans: "My mother was a gospel singer. I just wanted to hear what was on the radio, but she made us listen to it. Then at school, we wanted to hear hip hop, but our teachers made us listen to jazz. And then when you're walking down the street in the French quarters, all you hear is jazz music and zydeco music⦠It's a soulful place." Teedra was an assistant stylist to R. Kelly and No Doubt (Gwen Stefani's band). First single was Be Your Girl (2003), first album, Complex Simplicity ('04).
