Sisters Sophie (the eldest) and twins Amina and Jazz were born in Hamburg, Germany to a German mother and a Senegalese dad. The girls began singing in church and at school musicals at the ages of six and eight respectively. When the sisters reached junior high they were doing sessions in local studios and touring with gospel ensembles. Formed the group Choyce in 1998 and had regional success in Germany but felt that they were missing the influence of the US on their sound. In 2004 they went to Philadelphia where a local club owner introduced the trio, now calling themselves Black Buddafly, to Russell Simmons Music Group executive Tony Austin. A week before their visa was set to expire Austin signed Black Buddafly to his production company. Their debut single is Rock-a-Bye.
