Alan Taylor, 39, a French polisher from Edinburgh, said he would continue to keep his mortgage loan and current account with HBOS.

He said: "I think HBOS is the best bank in the world because it has always been good to me, so I won't be moving.

"I don't think there is any need to worry as they will get things sorted out."
