Victoria Jones, 26, from Edinburgh, said she had been planning to take out a car loan with HBOS.

She said: "I have heard that if a bank goes bust and you have debts with it then they are written off, so maybe I should take a loan with HBOS.

"It doesn't worry me because I don't have savings with HBOS, I just have an overdraft."
