The dodo is a lesson in extinction. First sighted around 1600 on Mauritius, an island in the Indian Ocean, the dodo was extinct within 80 years. The primary cause of their extinction was deforestation and nest raiding by introduced animals like rats and cats. If the Frozen Ark had existed in the early 17th Century, we would understand the dodo better.
