Jodi's body was found on a secluded pathway |
Police hunting the killer of Midlothian schoolgirl Jodi Jones have traced a tramp who was sleeping rough in a cave close to the murder scene. The man, along with another vagrant who had also been living in the cave, contacted detectives after a police appeal for information was given media coverage on Sunday.
A spokeswoman for Lothian and Borders police said both men had come forward when they realised the police were looking for them.
She said they had been interviewed and that the investigation into 14-year-old Jodi's death was continuing.
Jodi's body was found on a secluded woodland path near her Easthouses home on the outskirts of Dalkeith on Monday 30 June.
Officers investigating the murder visited the cave, in the grounds of an old abbey in Easthouses, and found evidence that someone had left in a hurry.
Forensic and DNA tests were carried out on items discovered inside the cave, including a pair of walking boots and a sleeping bag which had been set on fire.
Detectives have spoken to more than 3,000 people in the search for clues to find her killer but no weapon has been found and no arrests have been made.
