What has caused the floods in Spain?

Spanish weather service AEMET reported that the town of Chiva, in the Valencia region, recorded 491mm (19.3in) of rain in just eight hours on Tuesday - the equivalent to a year's worth of rain.

This heavy rainfall has been put down, in part, to a DANA phenomenon. Matt Taylor explains what this means.
