World temperatures soar in February to highest ever levels

February's global temperature soared 1.35C above average and close to the UN Paris conference agreed 1.5C above pre-industrial levels maximum.

Gavin Schmidt, the director of NASA's Goddard Institute for Space Studies tweeted, "Normally I don't comment on individual months, but last month was special".

Man-made climate change and an unusually strong El Niño pattern in the Pacific Ocean are causing temperatures to soar globally, according to scientists.
