Tidemark Edinburgh Fringe Experience 2004 Saturday 7 August 2004 Devastated isn't the word for it. My son, Richard, would probably use that awful word favoured by teenagers everywhere - 'gutted'. The show before 'Delicates and Smoke' has been overrunning again. Overrunning at the Fringe is the eighth deadly sin! Many visitors to the Fringe only come for a few days and in order to pack in as many shows as possible, they strategically plan their reviewing schedules so that they can dash off as one show ends to another venue just in time, often with only seconds to spare, to see another show. Venue managers allocate each show a performance slot plus a ten minute get-in and five minute strike. If a show goes up late, it finishes late and the knock-on consequences to other performances across the whole of the Fringe can be devastating. So, not only does the previous show overrun by twelve minutes, eating into our get-in and performance time, but as we're standing waiting to go in to set up, who should be in the audience leaving the offending show? Alan Rickman. Seriously, there he is, larger than life and twice as gorgeous, coming out of the wrong show!! Thankfully, from somewhere deep inside me, my self-restraint kicks in and I refrain from blurting something out to him, which would have been highly unprofessional and probably very embarrassing. So, I content myself with watching his lovely back disappearing down the stairs and out of my life forever. Ho hum. So near and yet so far... Gutted!
Rebecca will be reporting on Tidemark's experiences throughout this year's Festival. Come back to see how she's doing! Are you taking a production to Edinburgh this year? Do you want to tell the world about it? If so, let us know by emailing [email protected] |
