JASMINE: Hello and welcome!
JASMINE: I'm Jasmine and joining me as always is Johnny.
JOHNNY: So what are we doing today Jasmine?
JASMINE: Track and field!
JOHNNY: That's right but you don't need a track or field to join in.
JOHNNY: We'll show you how.
JASMINE: It's an athletic challenge Johnny.
JASMINE: There are three events, running, throwing and jumping.
JASMINE: And you can take part too.
JASMINE: Just look out for the Join In symbol.
JOHNNY: Okay, let's see what's happening in the stadium.
JASMINE: And here come the athletes for the first event.
JASMINE: Running, they're lining up waiting for the start.
JOHNNY: We've got a track here but you can run too.
JOHNNY: Get ready to run on the spot.
JASMINE: Ready, steady, go!
JASMINE: Keep going as fast as you can.
JASMINE: Seren is in the lead, she's so quick.
JASMINE: But Ned is close behind her.
JASMINE: Now here comes Ned.
JASMINE: Ned is neck and neck, he's going past her.
JASMINE: But Seren has got great stamina, she's catching up.
JASMINE: She's going past Ned!
JASMINE: She's going to do it!
JASMINE: Seren wins!
JOHNNY: Stop running!
JASMINE: Okay, let’s look at that again.
JASMINE: Seren had great technique, she was pumping her arms
JASMINE: she stayed tall, kept her knees up well while running.
JASMINE: She likes drinking water, so she's well hydrated
JASMINE: and ate her breakfast.
JASMINE: So she had plenty of energy.
JASMINE: In the end she was too strong for Ned.
JOHNNY: Congratulations to Seren.
JOHNNY: Right, next up the high jump.
JOHNNY: The aim here is to see who can jump the highest.
JOHNNY: First, we measure each athlete’s height
JOHNNY: with their arm full stretched
JOHNNY: and mark it with a piece of chalk.
JOHNNY: With chalk in their hand they have two attempts to see how high they jump
JOHNNY: marking the wall at its highest point.
JASMINE: Measure the distance between the standing mark
JASMINE: and the highest jumping mark
JASMINE: to work out how high you've jumped.
JOHNNY: Here's Ned, first jump is great.
JOHNNY: Second is amazing!
JOHNNY: No one's going to beat that surely.
JASMINE: Here comes Anna, first jump, not bad.
JASMINE: Second jump is good!
JASMINE: But it won't beat Ned.
JASMINE: Ned wins!
JOHNNY: Let's look how Ned did that.
JASMINE: He gets nice and low by bending his knees.
JASMINE: He keeps his arms back
JASMINE: springs up through his legs using his arms
JASMINE: to help him and wins.
JOHNNY: Okay, why don't you pick a partner to compete against.
JOHNNY: And see who can jump the highest.
JASMINE: The last track and field event today is target throwing.
JASMINE: Our athletes are lining up, looking at the target
JASMINE: getting ready to throw.
JASMINE: Practice this great technique for throwing with us now.
JASMINE: Make an L-shape with your feet.
JASMINE: Pull back your throwing arm.
JASMINE: Step forward as you push hard with your arm.
JASMINE: Follow through with your body.
JOHNNY: Here they go, Ned throws first.
JOHNNY: It's a miss!
JOHNNY: Seren next, good throw, very accurate.
JOHNNY: Next up Anna, and wow, that was perfect!
JOHNNY: Bullseye!
JOHNNY: You can do it in the playground with soft balls.
JOHNNY: Find out who can throw the furthest.
JASMINE: Okay, so that's us from the stadium today.
JASMINE: Hopefully you've got some great ideas.
JASMINE: You can have races to see who is fastest.
JASMINE: You can see who can jump the highest.
JASMINE: And you can see who can throw a ball at a target.
JOHNNY: And remember eating a good breakfast
JOHNNY: drinking water, getting enough sleep
JOHNNY: and being determined to win, will all help.
JOHNNY: Good luck and have fun!
