One of the most unpredictable players on the circuit, Lapentti can be brilliant - but sometimes just does not perform. Clay is his favourite surface but his best performance in a Grand Slam is a semi-final place in the 1999 Australian Open. He has also won four ATP Tour titles down the years, but has rarely achieved a sustained run of form. The highlight of his career remains inspiring his country's Davis Cup triumph over Great Britain at the All England Club in 2000. And even that achievement was blighted when the same nations met on Ecuadorian clay in 2001 - and the result was reversed. |
