Hantuchova cruises through
Daniela Hantuchova
Daniela Hantuchova wasted little time
Eighth seed Daniela Hantuchova raced into the second round of the Porsche Grand Prix in Filderstadt, Germany.

The Slovak was an easy 6-2 6-3 winner over Daja Bedanova of the Czech Republic.

Russia's Tatiana Panova joined Hantuchova in the second round after seeing off experienced Italian Silvia Farina Elia 6-3, 6-2.

They played in front of a crowd of barely 500 - an inauspicious start for an event which will feature 15 of the world's top 20.

Hantuchova was the only seed in action Monday.

Top-ranked Jennifer Capriati, titleholder Lindsay Davenport, Jelena Dokic and Justine Henin all benefitted from first-round byes.

World number one Serena Williams and her world number two sister Venus have both opted not to take part.

French fifth seed Amelie Mauresmo faces Germany's Barbara Rittner on Wednesday while Belgian sixth seed Kim Clisters will take on Russian world number 12 Anastasia Myskina.

Swiss seventh seed Martina Hingis is also in action, taking on Spanish veteran Arantxa Sanchez-Vicario for a place in the last 16.
