Johansson lost the first set against Frenchman Fabrice Santoro but came back to win 5-7 7-6 6-2. The Swede joins Australia's Wayne Arthurs and Chilean sixth seed Fernando Gonzalez in the last 16. Arthurs, who is ranked 43rd in the world, took an hour and 45 minutes to beat Spaniard Fernando Vicente 7-6 6-7 6-4. He will now face top seed Marat Safin or French 16-year-old Richard Gasquet, who play their first-round match on Tuesday evening. Gonzalez beat Argentine Jose Acasuso 6-4 7-5 and will take on the winner of the all-French match between Arnaud Clement and Julien Benneteau.
