Gold delays TV deal talks
SPL chairman Lex Gold
Gold is delighted at the prospect of fresh talks
Scottish Premier League chairman Lex Gold says discussions over a television deal will be put on the backburner until after a "clear-the-air" meeting between the top 12 clubs.

Gold confirmed on Monday that the Old Firm and representatives of the 10 other top-flight clubs would meet within the next week.

Celtic and Rangers continue to be at the centre of reports of a move to the English Nationwide League.

Gold said he believed there was no point in discussing TV deals while the future was so uncertain.

The remaining 10 SPL clubs recently gave two years' notice of their desire to leave and set up their own league in response to the Old Firm's refusal to give the go-ahead to SPL TV - a dedicated channel for the league.

I am confident that we can get together around the table in the next few days
Lex Gold
"The work on media deals will not resume until a sufficient degree of clarity on the way ahead for the SPL has been reached," Gold said on Tuesday.

On Monday, Gold was in more optimistic mood after arranging a meeting between the 12 clubs.

"I have been in constant discussions with both parties in the past few weeks and throughout today," he said then.

"I am delighted to report we have agreement from those involved for a meeting at the end of this week or the start of next.

"I'm delighted we have made this progress as there is clearly a great deal to discuss.

"Although we have yet to agree diaries I am confident that we can get together around the table in the next few days.

"Among the items on the agenda will be voting structures, distribution of funds and the structure of the game going forward.

"This is an important first step."
