SPL truce on horizon
The SPL faces an uncertain future without TV revenue
The Scottish Premier League's bickering clubs have taken a step closer to resolving their differences after a productive meeting involving the 12 top flight clubs.

SPL chairman Lex Gold has welcomed "constructive discussions" which have taken place between representatives of all members.

The non-Old Firm clubs are at loggerheads with Celtic and Rangers after the collapse of the proposed SPL television channel.

The Glasgow giants withdrew their support for the proposal at the last minute, leaving the rest of the SPL facing an uncertain financial future without the income from a broadcasting deal.

The renegade 10 subsequently announced their intention to quit the SPL and a bitter war of words appeared to drive and unbridgeable chasm between both sides.

Celtic and Rangers had one eye on a possible move to join the Nationwide League in England where some First Division clubs wanted the pair to entice broadcasters after the collapse of ITV Digital.

However, the Premier League, the Football Association and the Scottish FA blocked the proposal.

The SPL found themselves thwarted in an attempt to negotiate their own television contract with constant speculation about the Old Firm on the move hanging over their heads.

After the latest meeting, Gold believes the preliminary talks augur well for the future.

"I am pleased that these talks have taken place and welcome the spirit in which the representatives engaged to move matters forward," said Gold.

A press statement went on to say that the clubs and the SPL have jointly agreed to hold further discussions although all parties are unwilling to divulge further information until they are concluded.
