New Zealand Maori fly-half Carlos Spencer aims to use Saturday's match against Australia to force his way back into the All Blacks' squad.

Spencer moved from full-back to play in his favoured fly-half position for the 43-18 win against New South Wales on Saturday and won the man-of-the-match award.

He believes the Maori game against Australia is the perfect opportunity to press for a full New Zealand recall.

"It's a great occasion to do that," said the 28-year-old

"This is one of those games where you've got to play well. These are the games that count."

The Auckland Blues player said there were no weaknesses in the new-look Wallaby backline.

And he expects league newcomers Wendell Sailor and Mat Rogers to fit straight in to the Australian side.

"They've got a lot of talent there and no matter who they put in they're going to have a strong backline there," he said.

"We're definitely up against a strong side all over."

Maori prop Greg Feek missed training on Thursday with a sore hamstring, but coach Matt Te Pou said it was only a precautionary measure.
