Scots make winning start
Scotland tacklers close in on a Canada East attacker
Scotland's young players impressed coach McGeechan
Canada East 8-38 Scotland

Scotland scored five tries to open their tour of North America with a 38-8 win over Canada East.

The tourists were comfortable in victory and coach Ian McGeechan was happy with the performance at Richardson Stadium, Kingston.

Wing Nikki Walker was one who impressed, scoring one try and making two try-saving tackles.

"I thought it was encouraging," McGeechan told Scotland's official website.

"It was great to see the youngsters coming into the side and playing well."

Flanker Martin Leslie injured a knee after seven minutes and he could miss the rest of the tour.

Half-time lead

Gordon Ross' 12th-minute penalty set Scotland on their way and the stand-off converted both tries that the Scots secured to lead 17-3 at the break.

Allister Hogg crossed for the opening try after 28 minutes and they ended the half on the attack and Walker powered through for the second try.

Graeme Burns cashed in on a storming run by Bruce Douglas to score at the start of the second half.

Veteran home prop Kevin Wirachowski scored a 53rd-minute try, but Scotland finished with a brace of tries from Marcus Di Rollo.
