Mather calls it quits
Castleford's Barrie-Jon Mather
Mather has represented England at rugby union
Castleford's dual rugby international Barrie-Jon Mather is to retire at the end of the season.

The former Wigan and Great Britain centre, who missed the start of the season after undergoing shoulder surgery, is out of contract at the end of the current campaign.

"It's been tough this year and the injuries are starting to take their toll," said Mather.

I'm looking to change of few things around for next year
Tigers coach Graham Steadman

"I've had four good seasons with the Tigers but, after having a shoulder re-construction last year, in some ways this season has been a bonus for me."

Mather, who represented Great Britain from 1994-96, played one game for England's rugby union side during his stint with Sale.

Mather, who will be 30 in January, is the third Castleford player to announce his retirement this season.

Prop Dean Sampson and full-back Richard Gay have already said this will be their last season.

Australian forward Kyle Warren, 29, who joined the club last winter on a 12-month contract from North Queensland Cowboys, is also set for a return to his home country.

Castleford coach Graham Steadman said: "Kyle has been a little unfortunate. He hasn't missed many games this year and has been a consistent performer for us.

"But I'm looking to change of few things around for next year and his quota spot will be very valuable."
