Tassell terrorises Tigers
Kris Tassell scored three tries for the Wildcats

Castleford 18-30 Wakefield Trinity

Centre Kris Tassell grabbed a hat-trick of tries in lowly Wakefield's surprise win at The Jungle.

The Wildcats adapted far better to the slippery conditions than neighbours Castleford who were flattered by the final score after collecting 12 points in the last three minutes.

Wakefield avenged a season-opening home defeat against the Tigers.

We gave a magnificent defensive effort and we enjoyed our best completion rate of the season.
Wakefield coach Peter Roe

They rocked the home side by taking a third-minute advantage when Martin Moana sent Tassell in for his first which Ian Knott improved.

Wayne Bartrim opened Castleford's account with a seventh-minute penalty but Knott restored Wakefield's six-point lead with a penalty seven minutes later.

Ryan Hudson went over for the Tigers to suggest Castleford would make a fight of it, but Wakefield soon raced away.

Knott kicked a penalty goal, and one minute before the break Andrew Frew put Tassell in for his second touchdown.

Tassell completed his treble five minutes into the second half after Brad Davis linked with Jamie Field and Knott added his fourth goal.

Although it hurts to say it we have been beaten by a better side on the day and we have no excuses
Castleford coach Graham Steadman

In the 56th minute, Wildcats substitute David Wrench paved the way for Westwood to score and, after Castleford's Kyle Warren and Wakefield's Field were sin-binned, the Wildcats sealed victory with a Wrench try.

Castleford finally found their scoring touch in the closing stages as first Barry-Jon Mather and then skipper Danny Orr touched down.

Bartrim added both goals but it was too little too late for the Tigers as they crashed to their first home defeat against Wakefield since 1990.
