McIntyre quits Bulldogs
Bulldogs half-back Darrell Trindall has been suspended
Trindall joined the Bulldogs from St Helens
The fall-out from the Canterbury Bulldogs' salary-cap scandal continued on Monday when former board member Gary McIntyre severed all ties with the club.

And the Bulldogs also announced that they had suspended half-back Darrell Trindall.

The Bulldogs were stripped of 37 points and fined AUS $500,000 on Friday for breaching the NRL salary cap.

McIntyre, the president of the Canterbury League Club which funds the Bulldogs, bowed to pressure from fans and rugby league club officials and resigned.

"The ongoing debate over my role is damaging and I appreciate the need for the football and league clubs to both move on to a fresh era," McIntyre said in a statement.

"I have resigned these positions with great regret as people will assume it is a confession of guilt.

"I am confident that any inquiries or investigations conducted in the coming weeks will clear me of any wrongdoing."

Appeal plans

The Bulldogs said Trindall had been suspended following an incident at Canterbury Leagues Club early in the day.

Police confirmed they were called in the early hours of Monday morning following reports of an altercation.

The Bulldogs declined to comment further.

Steve Mortimer, the club's acting chief executive, said he hoped to lodge an appeal against the NRL's punishment by the end of the week.

The Bulldogs led the NRL before the punishment was imposed but are now bottom of the 15-team competition.
