Bulldogs suffer more misery
O'Hara in action against the Roosters
Ryan O'Hara scored two tries for the Raiders

The Bulldogs suffered a bad end to a disastrous week by slumping to a 38-34 defeat at Canberra on Sunday.

The former NRL leaders saw their chances of silverware dashed on Friday when they were docked 37 points and fined Aus$500,000 for breaching the salary cap.

And their 17-match winning run came to a juddering halt less than 48 hours later when they were beaten by the Raiders.

Nigel Vagana
Vagana's hat-trick of tries was in vain
Not even three tries from Nigel Vagana could save the Bulldogs, who trailed 18-0 midway through the first half and 28-10 at the break.

Ryan O'Hara grabbed a brace for the home side, who ran in a total of six tries.

Sydney Roosters scored eight tries as they boosted their play-off hopes with a 44-0 defeat of the New Zealand Warriors.

Todd Byrne bagged two of them, with Criag Fitzgibbon kicking another 12 points.

Daniel Wagon also scored two tries as Parramatta beat the Northern Eagles 19-6.

On Saturday, Ben Roarty scored two tries as the Penrith beat fellow strugglers South Sydney 28-12 at the NorthPower Stadium.

Wests Tigers dealt the Melbourne Storm's semi-final hopes a blow with a 26-16 victory over the Victorian team.

The Storm soon found themselves 12-0 down but worked their way back into the match and only trailed by two points at half-time.

However, despite having a strong wind at their backs in the second half, the Storm failed to produce and the hosts cruised to a surprise victory.

David Peachey was in fine form for the Sharks as they hammered the North Queensland Cowboys.

He ran in a hat-trick of scores, while Jye Mullane went over twice, as the Sharks ran out 36-14 winners.

In Friday's match Andrew Johns scored 20 points as defending NRL champions the Newcastle Knights crushed the Brisbane Broncos 40-10.

The Knights ran in seven tries as they joined the New Zealand Warriors on 36 points, while Brisbane are in third place on 35 points with two games left to play.
