Sheridan to lead Yorkshire
Ryan Sheridan takes over from the injured James Lowes
Ryan Sheridan takes over from James Lowes
Leeds scrum-half Ryan Sheridan will captain Yorkshire against Lancashire in this year's Origin Series.

The Leeds number seven missed last year's inaugural match through injury.

And he will make his Origin debut as captain, taking over from Bradford hooker James Lowes, who is ruled out with a knee injury.

Lancashire will be led by Great Britain skipper Andy Farrell, who captained the Red Rose men to a 36-24 victory at Headingley 12 months ago.

Lancashire have included 12 survivors from that team whereas injury-hit Yorkshire have named a dozen newcomers in their squad.

White Rose absentees include Daryl Cardiss, Chev Walker, Tony Smith, Paul Anderson and Darren Fleary.

Between them, Wigan and St Helens provide 12 of the 20 players in the Lancashire squad while 12 of the Yorkshire party come from Leeds and Bradford.

Lancashire are poised to give caps to Widnes' barnstorming forward David Mills - son of former Wales and Great Britain prop Jim Mills - Wigan back rower Steven Wilde and Halifax centre Stuart Donlan.

Centre Ben Westwood, Warrington's new signing from Wakefield, is named in the Yorkshire squad.

The series gets under way at Wigan's JJB Stadium next Friday, with the second game at Headingley on Tuesday 18 June.
