| Saturday, 15 February, 2003, 07:21 GMT Spurs make NBA history
Tim Duncan had 28 points and 20 rebounds to help overcome as San Antonio beat the Los Angeles Lakers 103-95 for their record seventh straight victory on the road. After losing the first match of a nine-game road trip, the Spurs became the first team in NBA history to win seven in a row on the same trip, which concludes Sunday in Sacramento. Duncan was a major reason why the Spurs continued their winning ways and beat the Lakers for the third time in as many games this season. The NBA's reigning Most Valuable Player dominated the interior all night and helped get Shaquille O' Neal into early foul trouble. While the Spurs accomplished a first, Bryant became the fourth player in NBA history to score at least 35 points in eight straight games. The superstar guard actually reached 40 points for the fourth consecutive contest. O'Neal collected 21 points and Robert Horry pulled down 15 rebounds for the Lakers, who saw a seven-game winning streak come to an end. The Dallas Mavericks avoided a fourth successive loss when they overcame the Memphis Grizzlies 110-103 on Friday. All-Star Dirk Nowitzki poured in 31 points to carry Dallas while Michael Finley added 29. Fellow All-Star Steve Nash had 16 points and 13 assists. Dallas have now won 10 games in a row against Memphis. In Indianapolis, Reggie Miller made seven three-pointers, the last with 10 seconds remaining in overtime, as the Indiana Pacers edged the Atlanta Hawks 98-97. Miller finished with 26 points to take his career total to 23,184 and move into 16th place on the NBA's all-time scoring list. Jermaine O'Neal added 16 points and 19 boards, with Brad Miller getting 17 and 14. In Toronto, Antawn Jamison scored 32 points as the Golden State Warriors won their third road game in a row, beating the Raptors 118-114 in overtime. Jason Richardson added 25 points. Gilbert Arenas, who notched 30 points to earn MVP honors at the All-Star Rookie Challenge last Saturday, counted only 15, with 11 from the free throw line. Friday's results Indiana 98-97 Atlanta |
