Jimmy White produced a stunning fightback to edge past world champion Peter Ebdon at the B&H Masters.

The Whirlwind looked to be heading for defeat after going 5-1 down in the second-round clash.

But he hauled the score back to 5-5 before clinching a famous win in front of a delighted Wembley crowd.

Ebdon had the chance to seal victory in the deciding frame after White missed a yellow.

But he could not take advantage, allowing his opponent to seal victory after a long bout of safety play.

White was understandably thrilled with the victory but admitted it was not a vintage display.

"A win's a win and this was special, but I've got to be in it from the start to beat Mark King or Stephen Hendry in the next round," he said.

"I've been slapped all over the gaff this season, making 147s in practice and in exhibition matches but I've not been getting there."

"I was so angry at not having pulled it back to 2-2 but when it got to 5-3 I felt good.

"My game is good enough to win here, they'll have to tear me out of here."

World champion Ebdon admitted he had a quiet word with White after the match.

"I told him it was a dream of mine as a boy to play him here at Wembley, but I'm sure I didn't get beaten 6-5 from 5-1 up in my dream," said Ebdon.

"I wanted to let him know what it meant to me - not many people could take what he's been through and keep coming back.

"It's a bitter blow to lose. I'd loved to have got my name on the trophy.

"I was pretty much cruising, but if you don't take chances you get beaten.

"I'll have to take it on the chin and work harder for the next tournament."
