| Monday, 17 February, 2003, 13:38 GMT Framewatch: Hendry v Williams Sunday's B&H Masters final: Stephen Hendry 4-10 Mark Williams Hendry has no chance to spark a comeback as Williams quickly builds a break of 82, forcing his opponent to concede the frame and the match. Stephen Hendry 4-10 Mark Williams Both players make a cagy start to the final session before Williams gets his chance to build a 60 break. Three reds remain but Hendry surprisingly concedes to leave his opponent just one frame from victory. In another tense frame, Hendry escapes from two snookers but leaves the final red over a pocket. Williams makes no mistake and takes the frame on the blue. The 1998 champion has checked Hendry's fightback to go into the mid-session interval just two frames from victory. A potentially pivotal frame could go either way after Hendry breaks down on a break of 44 to let Williams back in. The Welshman threatens to sneak it on the colours, but Hendry pots a superb long brown and clears up to close the gap to 7-4 with his second frame in a row. Hendry bounces back in perfect fashion with his seventh century of the tournament - and the 594th of a remarkable career - to reduce the gap to four frames. Williams sneaks the opening frame of the evening session with a modest break of 37 thanks to Hendry missing a long blue after fluking a red into the corner pocket. Hendry stays alive with a superb break of 102 - the first century of the match - to ensure he only trails by four frames going into the evening session. A crucial frame sees both players getting edgy. A fluked red appears to be the break Hendry needs, but he is unable to get the snooker he needs as Williams wins a fifth straight frame. Once again Hendry starts brightly with 26 before under-cutting a red to the middle. The six-times champion pays the price as Williams takes full command with a 59 break. Hendry appears on course to pull a frame back when he reaches 46 before missing an easy black to the middle. Williams takes full advantage with 42 to go three frames up. Hendry is unfortunate to snooker himself in the pack after potting a long red. Williams profits with breaks of 28 and 44 to take a two-frame lead at the mid-session interval. Both players appear to be continuing their recent good form. This time it is Williams who sinks a good long red and proceeds to reel off a break of 82, the highest of the match so far. Hendry puts the early setback behind him and hits his stride with a break of 70. Williams tries to get back into the frame but the Scot rattles off another 49 to level the match. Both players start tentatively, Hendry potting a red by mistake and then missing an easy long pot. Williams takes advantage with a break of 42 to clinch the opening frame. |
