| Saturday, 8 February, 2003, 22:02 GMT Hendry breaks Doherty resistance ![]() Hendry now faces Mark Williams in the final Stephen Hendry ended Ken Doherty's B&H Masters hopes with an impressive 6-3 victory in Saturday's semi-final. Hendry set the standard when he racked up a break of 144 in the second frame - the second highest in Masters history, equalling the score he made against Ronnie O'Sullivan in 1996. That gave the Scot a 2-0 lead, and although Doherty replied with an 87 break to take the third frame, Hendry ended the first session with a 3-1 lead. Doherty stayed in touch as the pace slowed after the interval and had the better of some tight tactical exchanges.
But Hendry kept his composure in the ninth frame to clinch a final showdown against his stablemate Mark Williams. Hendry was delighted by his win, even though he narrowly missed out on a maximum for the second night running, having stalled on the pink against Jimmy White on Friday. He said of his performance: "I felt more relaxed than I did last night. "To have come through a match like that [against White] was a big boost and I came out against Ken with all guns blazing. "It would be nice to win the last B&H Masters to make it seven wins to go with my seven world championships." |
