| Sunday, 16 February, 2003, 15:41 GMT Hendry battles into last four Stephen Hendry proved too good for Jimmy White as he won a superb quarter-final 6-4 at a packed Conference Centre at Wembley.
The six-times winner clinched the next on the black to move within one frame of victory and ended White's hopes with another century in the 10th frame. White also knocked in a century in the fourth frame but despite his gutsy performance, Hendry was not to be denied. "I had the car in the garage and the money in the bank," groaned the 34-year-old Scot after recalling a miss that cost him around 100,000. "I will probably wake up in the night in a cold sweat thinking about it. "I had a maximum on a plate but I couldn't serve it up," he added. "The bad shot was on the brown. But I've no excuses, I just hit the pink badly." White admitted he had given the match his all. "I'm pleased with the way I competed and I only missed a couple of shots," he said. "I'm pleased to have competed and in fact I'm more devastated about the tournament not being here next year than I am at losing to Hendry. "I'm gutted for Stephen he didn't make the maximum." |
