Hendry eyes revenge

Former world champion Stephen Hendry is on course for a revenge encounter with Peter Ebdon in September's Regal Masters.

Hendry, the world number six, will play Mark King in the first round for the right to face Ebdon at the Thistle Hotel in Glasgow.

Ebdon beat Hendry to win the world title at The Crucible in May but the European Open champion is keen to get back to the top.

"It would be great to play Peter on my home patch - but I'm sure Mark King will be just as keen to deny me that opportunity," said Hendry.

"I've had a good break this summer, and I've played a lot of golf.

"But in the next week or so I'll look to get back into serious practice.

Seeded

"Last season finished in disappointment, but in reaching the final at The Crucible and in winning the European Open, I showed that I can still perform at the highest level.

"And I'll be hoping to pick up where I left off at the Regal Masters."

Ebdon, defending champion and top seed John Higgins, world number one Ronnie O'Sullivan and Mark Williams are all seeded through to the last eight.

Higgins will face either twice Regal Masters winner and fifth seed Ken Doherty or Jimmy White, one of four wildcards, in the quarter-finals.

Matthew Stevens and Paul Hunter do battle for the right to meet O'Sullivan.
