| Day two: Glorious Goodwood All the action from day two of Glorious Goodwood. (All times BST) Going: Good, Good to Firm in places. 1735 - Charlton Handicap 1. Zuhair (Alex Greaves) 7-2 Fav Zuhair wins the final race of the day by a length and a quarter. The well-backed 7-2 favourite left some modest early-season form behind as he swooped late under trainer's wife Alex Greaves to collect the five-furlong handicap from Talbot Avenue. 1700 - Lady of the Month Champagne Stakes 1. Judhoor (R Hills) 2-5 Fav Another triumph for the favourite, with Sheikh Hamdan's jockey Richard Hills guiding Judhoor home. "Judhoor is a nice filly but she will be better over an extra furlong," said Barry Hills, trainer and father of the winning jockey. Barry Hills also trained his other son's triumph in the 1625 race. 1625 - Weatherbys Bank Fillies Rated Stakes 1. Mamounia (M Hills) 7-2 Fav Michael Hills guides favourite Mamounia to a comfortable win in one of the final races of the afternoon. 1550 - Tote Gold Trophy Stakes (Handicap - 1m 4f) 1. Dawn Invasion (R Hughes) 12-1 Also: 3-1 Fav Sentinel Richard Hughes rides Dawn Invasion to victory, narrowly edging out Waverly and Distinction. There is a three-way photo finish with the trio vying for first place from the off, but there is little doubt that Dawn Invasion is first to get his nose across the finish line. 1520 - Sussex Stakes (Group One - 1m) 1. Rock of Gibraltar 8-13F (M J Kinane) Rock of Gibraltar goes into the record books with six successive Group One victories, winning an extraordinary Sussex Stakes at a canter. As expected, Sahara Desert makes the early running, setting a good gallop. At the five furlong point the chasing pack, led by Reel Buddy, begin to close in and Reel Buddy kicks for home in the final straight. But with 200 yards to go, Rock of Gibraltar again proves his awesome power to burst through the pack for a two length win and a place in the history books. 1445 - Champagne Victor Vintage Stakes (Group Three - 7f) 1. Dublin 11-1 (J P Spencer) Also: 7-2 Fav Norse Dancer 4th Dublin runs a brave race to pip Bourbonnais to victory in the day's second race and hand owner Sheikh Mohammed a one-two. Sarayat gets off to a great start but is passed by Bourbonnais on the first corner. With two furlongs to go Sarayat attempts to make his move on the inside, but Dublin spots the gap and bravely bursts through with one furlong to go. 1415 - Marriott Hotels Goodwood Stakes (Handicap - 2m 5f) 1. Hugs Dancer 7-2F (D McKeown) Hugs Dancer leaves it late to claim victory by three-quarters of a length in the first race of day two at Goodwood. Lord Jim sets the early pace but is closely pursued by Green Hope, who goes a length-and-a-half ahead in the final straight. But Hugs Dancer times his run to perfection to gain the upper hand at the crucial moment, surging to victory in this race for the second year running. |
