Jardines Lookout proves best
Mick Kinane and Jardines Lookout on their way to the finishing post
Mick Kinane guides Jardines Lookout to victory
Jardines Lookout landed the biggest win of his career with victory in the Goodwood Cup on the third day at Glorious Goodwood.

Under Mick Kinane, he led two furlongs out in the two-mile contest and beat Give Notice by a length and a half.

Charley Bates finished three and a half lengths further back in third.

Last year's winner Persian Punch dropped out quickly after setting a very strong pace to three furlongs out and eventually trailed in last of nine.

The five-year-old Jardines Lookout had put in a serious challenge on a number of occasions in the past but had failed to win the big long-distance race victory he deserved.

The horse was controversially disqualified from first place in the Melrose Handicap at York in 2000.

Jardines Lookout will now return to York for the Lonsdale Stakes, in which he finished second last year, before a possible tilt at the Melbourne Cup.

Both those races may also be on the agenda for Give Notice.

In the Molecomb Stakes, Wunders Dream gave trainer James Given his second winner of the meeting.

The 8-1 shot, ridden by Michael Fenton was initially held up behind early pacesetter Night Speed.

But Fenton brought his mount through to lead with a furlong to run and she quickly asserted her authority to win the Group Three prize by two lengths.

Sir Edwin Landseer, who had finished third behind Presto Vento and Wunders Dream in the Weatherbys Super Sprint 12 days earlier, stayed on late to pip Folio and Speed Cop for second place.
