| Wednesday, 24 July, 2002, 14:17 GMT 15:17 UK Olivier Peslier ![]() Frenchman Olivier Peslier has the knack of landing big prizes at home and abroad. He capped a memorable year in 1998 by winning his country's biggest race, the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe, for the third consecutive time. That triumph on Sagamix followed victories with Helissio and Peintre Celebre. Earlier in 1998, Peslier won the Epsom Derby with a perfectly-timed challenge on Luca Cumani's High-Rise.
The jockey picked up his first Classic three years earlier with a superb ride on Winged Love in the Irish Derby at the Curragh. He has won the French champion jockey title four times, although Dominique Boeuf pipped him by one winner last year. The son of a stonemason, Peslier has carved out a reputation as a man for the big occasion. Peslier, who is just four weeks younger than Frankie Dettori, drew a blank at last year's July meeting. |
