Kieren Fallon
Kieren Fallon
Controversy has dogged Kieren Fallon's career, yet he boasts few equals in the saddle.

He was famously handed a six-month ban in 1994 for pulling another jockey off a horse at Beverley.

Three years later, he was champion jockey, the first of three successive titles.

His winning run was only halted by a career-threatening shoulder injury at the 2000 Royal Ascot meeting where he was top jockey with four wins.

On his return, Fallon was criticised for not being the force of old.

He responded by reclaiming the champion jockey's crown.

Typically, the 2001 season ended with a shock as he announced his retainer with trainer Sir Michael Stoute was to end.

Some owners seemingly preferred other riders, although Stoute has continued to book Fallon.

It was not Fallon's first high-profile split.

The jockey had previously enjoyed a highly successful partnership with Henry Cecil, winning the Derby in 1999 on Oath.

But the pair went their separate ways after tabloid newspaper stories concerning the jockey and Cecil's wife.

Fallon went on to star for Stoute, with victory in the 2,000 Guineas on King's Best in the year 2000.

The jockey remains in demand, although lost the rides with owners Sheikh Maktoum Al Maktoum and Saeed Suhail earlier this season.

Fallon has enjoyed lots of success at Glorious Goodwood and was top jockey at the 1997 and 1998 meetings, clocking up an impressive eight wins at the latter.

This year, he started well with two winners of the first day.

He finished the meeting on a high, too, with victory on the late Lord Weinstock's Islington in the Group One Vodafone Nassau Stakes on the final day.
