Jefferies back at Ulster GP
Yorkshire rider David Jefferies

Isle of Man TT star David Jefferies will head a galaxy of top riders in this year's Ulster Grand Prix on 16 August.

Also helping to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the popular road-race at Dundrod will be the Yorkshireman's local TAS Suzuki team-mate Adrian Archibald.

Last year's triple winner Ian Lougher will be back to defend his titles as will New Zealander Bruce Anstie.

Scottish star Jim Moody will also be making a welcome return to the Co Antrim circuit.

We have a seven-race format which should involve some tremendous racing

After numerous troubles surrounding the event, including the tragic death of popular local rider Gary Jess last year, it was a massive boost for the UGP committee.

Clerk of the Course Noel Johnston spoke of the new safety controls and of the format of the race day.

''We have a seven-race format which should involve some tremendous racing,'' said Johnston.

''Also, in order to celebrate the golden jubilee of the Dundrod circuit we are planning two special parade laps of famous riders and machines.

''Ongoing safety work is being carried out and that includes replacing the concrete posts at Cochranestown with removable wooden fencing.

''The pit area will be modified and a new safety fence is being installed.''

Jefferies, a triple winner on the Isle of Man last summer, is the lap record holder at the Dundrod circuit, posting a speed of 126.70mph two years ago.

Moodie, meanwhile, was last at Dundrod 13 years ago, but is looking forward to his return.

''After missing out last year due to injury I am doubly looking forward to returning this year with my new machinery.''

Moodie is now part of an all British team under the ValMoto banner.

Meanwhile, Antrim's Adrian Coates is switching from the British Superbike class to the 600cc Supersport although continuing to ride for the Padgetts team.
