Officials hit back in Ulster GP row
Ian Lougher is always one of the main contenders at the Ulster Grand Prix
Ian Lougher won the major race at Dundrod in 2002
Ulster Grand Prix organisers have insisted that the Dundrod event will go ahead in 2003 despite financial worries.

The Ulster Grand Prix Supporters Club, who have provided over 700,000 for the event over the past 40 years, said earlier this week that they might withdraw their support in 2003.

Supporters' Club official Des Jardin claimed his organisation had encountered "severe problems" with two members of the Dundrod Club who ran the event in 2002.

He added that the Supporters' Club would not support the event in 2003 if the two officials remained in place.

Neither of us intends standing down

However, Dundrod official Leslie Moore has said that his club would not be "subjected to bully boy tactics".

Moore revealed that he and clerk of the course Noel Johnston were the two officials at the centre of the row.

"But I can assure you that neither of us intends standing down," said Moore.

"We have a five-year plan for the race and we intend honouring our commitments.

''I can tell you that the 2003 Ulster Grand Prix is not in danger.

''Even without Supperter's Club backing the event is still viable.

''Dundrod took over the running of the event last year after the Coleraine Club had opted out.''
