Belfast Giants recorded a superb 4-2 victory over Swiss side Davos in the Continental Cup in Lugano on Saturday evening.

The Giants, beaten 2-0 by the hosts in their quarter-final game on Friday, bounced back in style to the delight of their large and noisy travelling support.

They will now meet Slovakian side Slovan Bratislava on Sunday to determine who finishes fifth and sixth in the eight-team 'Super Final'.

Belfast so nearly made the perfect start but captain Paul Kruse was denied by Davos goaltender Jonas Hiller after just 42 seconds.

Giants netminder Ryan Bach, man of the match against Lugano, then foiled former National Hockey League forward Josef Marha on a breakaway.

Hiller saved from Kevin Riehl and Bach thwarted Steivan Hasler before Giants deservedly took the lead at 10.19.

After a number of scrambles around the net, Curt Bowen managed to sneak the puck past Hiller.

Belfast had a scare moments later with the puck being hacked away off the goalline before Bach produced a flying save from Thierry Paterlin on Davos' second powerplay of the period.

But Bach was beaten just 49 seconds after the restart.

A terrible line change by the Giants presented Marha with a clear skate on goal and he made no mistake.

Rod Stevens was inches away from latching onto a Doug MacDonald pass in front of the net but he played a significant part in helping Belfast regain the lead in the 38th minute.

His pinpoint pass fed Kory Karlander and the Giants forward skated away to tuck the puck past Hiller.

Belfast stretched their lead on the powerplay five minutes into the final period with Davos' Marc Gianola sitting out a minor charging penalty.

Colin Ward unleashed a blistering shot which left Hiller helpless and moments later Bach denied Hasler again to retain the two-goal advantage.

Davos did claw back a goal with 10 minutes left through Jan Von Arx but MacDonald secured victory with an empty-net goal 35 seconds from time after Hiller had been withdrawn.
