Dominic McKinley's Antrim side failed to defend their All-Ireland Intermediate crown with Cork winning 3-9 to 1-10 at Ringsend in Dublin. Carrickmore were beaten 2-13 to 0-10 by Mayo side Carnacon in the Ladies Senior Club final at Mullingar. A brilliant goalkeeping performance by Cork's Denise Twoomey denied the Saffrons in Dublin. Things looked good for Antrim early on with Jane Adams firing a free to the Cork net in the 10th minute. Tyholland victory However, crucially Marie Watson responded almost immediately with a Cork goal and Antrim's failure to find the target with several other scoring chances was further punished by two more Leeside three-pointers before the interval. Val Maher hit the two killer goals for the Munster county which helped her side for a 3-1 to 1-5 interval lead. Crucially, Cork hit five unanswered points in the third quarter and despite a late charge by Antrim, the Leesiders held on for victory. After the ball, Dominic McKinley, who also manages the Derry senior hurling team, said he could step down for the Antrim camogie role because of the demands it placed on his time. Meanwhile, Cora Staunton hit 1-8 as Carnacon proved too good for Carrickmore. Earlier, Monaghan club Tyholland claimed the junior ladies football title at Mullingar with a 6-7 to 1-9 win over Tipperary team Cappawhite. | See also: 23 Nov 02 | N Ireland 22 Nov 02 | N Ireland 22 Nov 02 | N Ireland Top N Ireland stories now: Links to more N Ireland stories are at the foot of the page. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
