Jeremy McWilliams finished fourteenth in Friday's first qualifying session for the Catalunya Grand Prix in Barcelona.

The Proton KR rider is hoping for a change of fortune after a series of mechanical failures in recent weeks.

His team-mate Nobuatsu Aoki was a place behind the Glengormley man in fifteenth.

Both, however, will be aiming for an improvement in Saturday's final qualifying session.

The opening session was headed by Loris Capirossi, followed by Sete Gibernau, Tohru Ukawa and Carlos Checa.
