McKee betters European standard
Paul McKee is hoping to run in the Commonwealth Games and European Championships
Paul McKee was only .15 outside his PB
Belfast 400m man Paul McKee was among several Irish athletes to perform well at a Grand Prix event in Latvia on Friday evening.

McKee achieved the European Championship standard when winning the one-lap event in 46.07 which was only .15 outside his personal best set in 2000.

The Belfast man's run was more than half-a-second inside the European standard and McKee becomes the third Irish 400m athlete to put himself in line for a trip to Munich in August.

Tomas Coman and David McCarthy also have achieved the Munich standard.

Veteran javelin thrower Terry McHugh achieved a distance of 78.67m to also book his place in Munich.

Ballymena & Antrim man Ben Houghton bettered 70m for the first time with a throw of 70.03m.

Dervla O'Rourke achieved the European 100H standard by producing a personal best of 13.30 seconds.

Lisburn athlete Kelly McNeice produced a fine run to cut two seconds off her personal best in the 800m.

McNeice clocked 2:04.55 to finish in third place.

Ballymena & Antrim sprinter John McAdorey finished fourth in the 100m with a wind-assisted time of 10.52 seconds.

The left him just behind his compatriot Gary Ryan who took third (10.51).

Emily Maher scored a fine double in the womens 100m and 200m to continue her good early season form.
