Australian James Courtney won his third race of the season to extend his lead in the British Formula Three Championship.

Sebastien Bourdais led the 45-lap Monaco Formula 3000 race from start to finish to win by more than 18 seconds having started from pole position.

The Super Nova driver led home Austria's Patrick Freisacher (Red Bull Junior Team) who claimed the best finish of his F3000 career.

Czech Tomas Enge, who drove for Prost for three races in Formula One last year, finished third almost 10 seconds further adrift.

Bourdais, who has started four of this season's five races on pole, now leads the series by three points from Enge.

Mark Martin won the Coca-Cola 600 on Sunday night, ending a two-year victory drought and giving Roush Racing its fourth straight win in Nascar's longest race.

Martin, at 43 the anchor of Jack Roush's four Winston Cup teams, held off team-mate Matt Kenseth over the final laps to end his 73-race winless streak.

Roush, recovering from serious injuries sustained last month in a plane crash in Alabama, also fielded winning cars for Jeff Burton in 1999 and 2001 and Kenseth in 2000.

Martin took over the lead when rookie Jimmie Johnson made two errors while on his way to a seemingly easy victory.

Johnson had dominated the race and led for 263 of the 400 laps.

James Courtney dominated race one in treacherous wet conditions which forced the cancellation of race two in the British Formula Three race at Croft near Darlington.

The Australian beat American Richard Antinucci by 12 seconds, with Irishman Michael Keohane a similar distance behind in third place.

Courtney built his advantage after the safety car was brought out twice early on following crashes on the opening lap and then immediately after the race was restarted.

Undriveable track conditions forced the cancellation of the second race.

After the heavy rains, a Mini 7 race on the track had also left a considerable amount of oil on the course, rendering the track treacherous.
