Tiger expects tough US Open
USA's Tiger Woods
Tiger practiced at the course last week
Tiger Woods has described the venue for next week's US Open as the toughest par-70 layout he has ever seen.

Bethpage State Park's Black Course in New York is a par-70 layout measuring 7,214 yards and is the longest course in US Open history.

The world number one played a practice round there last week and said on Wednesday that the greens were difficult to judge.

He said: "I have to say it's the hardest par-70 course I've ever seen.

"Anyone who thinks the winning score (in relation to par) will be in double digits is crazy.

"On a couple of holes, you have to carry the ball 270 yards just to reach the fairway. Plus, the fairways are pretty narrow and the rough is about three inches.

"It's going to be a hell of a test. Even though the greens are pretty flat, they're still tough to read.

"First it looks like it breaks one way then, when you walk on the other side of the hole, it looks like it breaks another."

The Black Course will stage its first US Open from 13-16 June in the second of the year's four Major championships.
