| Spy blue ![]() BBC Sport Online picks out some of the quirky, offbeat or plain daft stories doing the rounds. Spy blue Former Coventry goalkeeper Steve Ogrizovic has insisted reports of his capture are greatly exaggerated. According to the website Petition Online, the 45-year-old was being held prisoner by the Kazakhstani government, following accusations of spying. The site said Oggy had been on a sponsored trip around the world to raise money for the charity Over The Bar when he was captured. But Ogrizovic, who is now Academy Director for the Sky Blues, admitted he was baffled by the claims. "I haven't made any trips to Kazakhstan of late, nor am I planning to!" he laughed. "I can only assume that with the well-documented break-throughs in science of late, I have obviously been cloned." Fright night Spandau Ballet singer Tony Hadley is to slug it out with BBC journalist John Pienaar in the next TV celebrity boxing match. The pair will go head to head on BBC 2's The Fight later this year and it's anybody's guess as to who will come out on top.
In the red corner is six-footer Hadley, who will no doubt be limbering up to the Spandau classic Musclebound and looking for a performance of pure Gold. In the blue you have political heavyweight Pienaar, who stands six foot two in his boxer boots and is rarely backed into a corner. The previous celebrity contest saw comedian Ricky Gervais out-point Anthea Turner's husband Grant Bovey. Whoever comes out on top in the Hadley-Pienaar bout will surely be lined up as the next opponent for Audley Harrison. Spot of bother Two men have appeared in court charged with stealing the penalty spots from Rotherham football ground. John Nunns and a 17-year-old pleaded guilty to digging up the spots at the First Division club in the early hours of Christmas Day morning. They were bailed until 20 January, when they will be sentenced. Rotherham magistrates heard the pair broke into the Millmoor ground for a prank, carrying off the removed turf in buckets. They were arrested at home on Boxing Day - although it's not clear whether they were grassed up. | See also: 04 Jan 03 | Funny Old Game 02 Jan 03 | Funny Old Game 30 Dec 02 | Funny Old Game 27 Dec 02 | Funny Old Game 20 Dec 02 | Funny Old Game 19 Dec 02 | Funny Old Game 16 Dec 02 | Funny Old Game 14 Dec 02 | Funny Old Game 11 Dec 02 | Funny Old Game 13 Dec 02 | Funny Old Game 10 Dec 02 | Funny Old Game Top Funny Old Game stories now: Links to more Funny Old Game stories are at the foot of the page. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
