A battling victory was not enough to prolong Livingston's first-ever Uefa Cup campaign.

Barry Wilson gave them a glimmer of hope of turning the tie around from the penalty spot, but Sturm Graz showed their quality by scoring three of their own.

Livi refused to buckle and Davide Xausa reduced the deficit before Marvin Andrews and then Wilson again gave the home side the win on the night.

Livingston knew a quick goal could make all the difference and Francisco Quino tried his luck at goal within 30 seconds of the kick-off but the ball fell wide of the post.

Livi had a great chance to take the lead when Wilson nodded Xausa's pass into the path of David Bingham but, before he could connect, Daniel Hoffman was off his line to deny him.

Sturm Graz were unlucky not to take the lead two minutes later when Imre Szabics unleashed a shot from just inside the area, which Javier Sanchez Broto did well to block.

Livingston went ahead on the half-hour mark from the penalty spot after Barry Wilson was felled in the box by Gunther Neukirchner.

Wilson stepped up to take the spot kick himself and sent Hoffman the wrong way.

But Livingston suffered a blow a minute before the break when Sturm Graz levelled.

David Mujiri provided the cross for Szabics to nod past Broto from just a few yards out

If the tie was not already finished, it was straight after the interval.

Mujiri took the ball past Oscar Rubio before firing home from the edge of the 18-yard box.

Xausa had a chance two minutes later with a free-kick just outside the the area but he sent the ball well over the crossbar and Wilson saw his shot blocked by the goalkeeper just seconds later.
