| Sartid hold Ipswich ![]() Ipswich remain unbeaten in Europe at Portman Road Ipswich 1-1 Sartid Ipswich extended their proud home European record to 30 matches without defeat - but will have to score in Yugoslavia to progress past Sartid. European debutants, Sartid proved an inventive side and Nead Mirosavljevic gave Ipswich a scare by putting the Yugoslavs in the lead before Alun Armstrong equalised.
Sartid's first attempt on goal arrived just after the quarter-hour when Mirosavljevic was well wide from 30 yards. Another intricate build-up provided Sartid with a 32nd-minute lead. Mirosavljevic started the move laying the ball off to midfielder Demir Ramovic 30 yards from goal. Mirosavljevic then ran onto a return pass, which squeezed its way past Mark Venus, to lift over the advancing Andy Marshall from a central position. That left Portman Road in silence and it remained so until four minutes before the break when Mark Venus' quick free-kick allowed Darren Ambrose a shooting chance. On the stroke of half-time, Dragan Zilic got down well to his right to hold Pablo Counago's left-foot shot from 20 yards. Ipswich picked up the tempo on the resumption and were rewarded just 10 minutes in as Armstrong pulled them level. With the Sartid defence attempting to play the offside trap to John McGreal's punt upfield, Armstrong crept round the back, controlled and spun the ball beyond the giant Zilic with a volley into the ground. The Sartid goalkeeper then turned Jamie Clapham's near-post header from Counago's left-wing cross against the crossbar Tommy Miller should have done better with a header from eight yards but could not direct his effort under pressure from Zilic. In stoppage time Dejan Kekezovic was dismissed for a second bookable offence, a foul on Counago. Ipswich: Marshall, Wilnis, Clapham, McGreal, Hreidarsson, Venus, Ambrose, Holland, Miller, Counago, Armstrong. FK Sartid: Zilic, Paunovic, Spasic, Socanac, Radosavljevic, Bogdanovic, Ramovic, Vaskovic, Kekezovic, Mirosavljevic, Zecevic. Referee: T Mikulski. |
