| Wednesday, 26 June, 2002, 10:23 GMT 11:23 UK Knight makes Owls switch Sheffield Wednesday have bolstered their squad ahead of the new season with the capture of Chelsea youngster Leon Knight. Wednesday have signed the 19-year-old striker on a season-long loan from Stamford Bridge. The move means a return to Yorkshire for Knight, who had a successful stay at Huddersfield Town under a similar arrangement last term. The England Under-20 international was the Terriers' leading scorer with 17 goals as they reached the Second Division play-offs and Huddersfield were keen to bring him back to the McAlpine Stadium. However, the 5ft 4in Knight will miss the first two games of the season through suspension. Owls boss Terry Yorath is hoping to make another new signing before the start of the season but he, and chief executive Alan Sykes are pleased to have Knight on board. "We have been working for several weeks to bring him to Sheffield Wednesday and are extremely grateful to Chelsea for their co-operation in enabling this deal to go through," Sykes told the club's website. |
