The England Under-21 international's transfer to St James' Park had been put on hold by an ankle problem.

But Newcastle have confirmed that Bramble finally signed a contract on Friday morning.

"While I am sad to be leaving Ipswich Town, I am thrilled to be joining such a massive club as Newcastle United," Bramble told Newcastle's website.

"There are some terrific players here, a tremendous manager and I cannot wait for the new season to start."

Bramble links up with his former Ipswich team-mate Kieron Dyer on Tyneside.

Newcastle boss Sir Bobby Robson said: "I am delighted that Titus will be part of our squad next season.

"He is a powerfully built lad who has the potential to achieve great things in the game."

Meanwhile, Robson is hoping Olivier Bernard will focus all his attentions on Newcastle after signing a new three-year contract.

The Premier League Appeals Committee rejected Bernard's plea to be allowed to leave Newcastle and move to Upton Park.

Robson said: "If that hadn't happened, what is the point of legislation and regulations and the decision stands for commonsense. We have fought tooth and nail over this.

"The player was badly advised. You get good agents and you get bad agents and they have tried to steal the boy away from us. He was misled.

"I hope the player now comes back to us with a good head on. He has signed a lucrative contract for his age and ability.

"We offered him it at the end of last season so why he refused then to sign it, we don't know."
