Diego Forlan and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer scored a goal in each half to book a place in the quarter-finals. But Burnley made a fight of the fourth round tie at Turf Moor before United's superior finishing power told. "I thought we showed a lot of resolution and fight against a team that gives everything," said Ferguson. "We had to work hard, they were a bit unlucky and made it a real cup tie. "I sensed in the second half we were getting more penetration and creating chances and it kept them stretched a bit, and doing that I didn't worry as much as the first half. "It was a good competent performance, we had to battle but we did that well."
"They are playing at home, it was always going to be difficult. We had a lot of young players but we got together and played how we know we can do and got the win." United now face Arsenal at Old Trafford on Saturday in a vital Premiership game and Brown added: "Saturday is a big game, everyone is looking forward to it. "We've had a few good wins in the league and hopefully we can continue." Forlan, who added to his brace against Liverpool last Saturday, added: "It's nice to score, we came here to play well and win and we did it. "We watched some videos and knew they play well and we had all the respect for them, but we came to play and we did." Burnley boss Stan Ternent was pleased his side had not been outplayed by the visitors. "We have been creating chances but never really had a clear-cut opportunity. "We played well and enjoyed the experience. "It`s not bad when you can bring on Paul Scholes, Ryan Giggs and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, his finish was absolutely top drawer. "But we didn't disgrace ourselves," added the Clarets manager. |
