| Wednesday, 3 July, 2002, 10:18 GMT 11:18 UK Bonetti departure 'by mutual consent' ![]() Bonetti speaks to reporters before his sacking Dundee stressed on Wednesday that the departure of Ivano Bonetti and his managerial team was by mutual consent. The contracts of Bonetti and his assistant, brother Dario, were terminated at a meeting on Tuesday evening. It is believed Bonetti is currently negotiating a pay-off deal with officials at the club. Bonetti said on Tuesday that he would be holding a news conference on Wednesday afternoon, but that has now been cancelled. Former Dundee manager Jim Duffy and Paraguayan coach Francisco Ocampo are among the names being mentioned in connection with the vacancy. The Bonettis' departure was announced by Dundee chief executive Peter Marr after he emerged from the meeting. Marr said: "After talks with the Bonettis, and the management team, it has been mutually decided to terminate their contract." The news ended months of speculation surrounding the Italian's future. However, when Ivano Bonetti emerged from the meeting, he appeared to be under the impression that a final decision was still to be taken. "We still have lots to sort out but we will keep talking," he said.
Bonetti had briefly attended pre-season training on Tuesday afternoon. He was absent from the club towards the end of last season, although Dundee always insisted he would be back. Club officials were in Paraguay last week and reports suggested they were there to offer the manager's job to Ocampo. However, the club said they were there to look at players. Further newspaper reports on Tuesday claimed that Dundee had hired a London-based agency to find buyers for six of their most valuable players. A spokesman for the club would only admit: "There are no offers for the players but like at every club across the country, the players are for sale at the right price." |
