Kochesky was dismissed for an alleged elbow on Enrique de Lucas during the opening day 3-2 defeat to London rivals Chelsea at the Valley.

The England Under-21 international attended an appeal hearing in London on Thursday as he contested referee Graham Barber's decision.

However, the appeal was unsuccessful and Konchesky must now serve a three-match ban for a violent conduct dismissal, starting with this Saturday's game at West Ham.

A statement on the FA's official website read: "Further to a hearing this afternoon, the FA can confirm that the appeal of Paul Konchesky against his dismissal has failed.

"Therefore, Konchesky will begin a three-match suspension this weekend."

As well as the game at Upton Park he will also now have to miss the trip to Aston Villa on 11 September and the home game against Arsenal on 14 September.
