Jansen to miss kick-off
Jansen was involved in a crash while on holiday in Italy
Rovers say Jansen is making excellent progress
Blackburn Rovers striker Matt Jansen will miss the start of the season as he recovers from a motorcycle accident.

The 24-year-old sustained the injury while on holiday in Rome in June.

Jansen was admitted to hospital suffering from concussion and minor cuts and bruises.

And although Jansen will miss the start of the season, Rovers boss Graeme Souness is happy with his player's progress.

"Of course it is disappointing, but the good news is Matt is making excellent progress," Blackburn manager Graeme Souness told the club's website.

"Our medical team are very happy with him. It has been very much rest and relaxation therapy for the player."

When he does return to action, Jansen will be hoping to continue the form that brought him into contention for a place in England's World Cup squad.

Meanwhile, Rovers chief executive John Williams said the club are "in the middle" of talks with Damien Duff about a new contract.

And he added discussions with manager Graeme Souness about a new deal are "proceeding well".
